During a briefing led by FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, the Prime Minister was informed about the efforts of tax officials who uncovered a fraudulent operation involving sales tax. The investigation revealed that the personal details of an 80-year-old woman had been misused in the fraudulent activities.
Senior tax officer Aijaz Hassan identified the fraud on March 4, which initially involved a transfer of Rs 370 million. The recovery process for the funds is currently underway, and a statement from the FBR confirmed that the main suspect in the attempted fraud has been arrested.
Prime Minister Sharif directed the FBR to investigate whether any tax officials may have assisted in the fraudulent scheme. He commended the FBR for its proactive measures in tackling tax fraud and emphasized the importance of accountability.
In addition to the cash reward, the Prime Minister presented Aijaz Hassan with a shield in recognition of his dedication and service. "Aijaz Hassan has served the nation through his devotion to duty. His effort is commendable," Mr. Sharif stated.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister instructed the FBR to engage top legal experts to ensure that those involved in the fraud face exemplary punishment.
This initiative reflects the government's commitment to enhancing the integrity of tax administration and cracking down on fraudulent activities within the system, reinforcing a broader international standard for accountability and transparency in public service.
